Plenty of Virtual Scanning for Spike
Our Matterport camera has been keeping us busy over the past few months as several VR mapping jobs appeared in our calendar.
Working with a local architecture firm saw us spend 3 days scanning a confidential property, the scans will be used to help the architects draw up plans to aid development of the property. We also travelled over to Alderney on behalf of the same architects to scan a home over there for the same reasons as listed above. Exporting our scans to point clouds and other file formats for use in modelling software rather than using the scans for virtual tours is something new we are exploring. The data captured from our scanning can be used in software such as Revit or ReCap to draw up floor plans and create 3d models to use for measurements.
We were also at 19 Golf Club using our Matterport Camera to create a more ‘traditional’ walkthrough scan which will be used by 19 to show off their facilities, the scan will also contain links that will enable the user to book the driving range, book a table in the restaurant or purchase golf equipment from the online shop.
We put our noses through a few hours of torture whilst completing a scan of the Belle Grave sewage treatment plant for Guernsey Water. They will be using the scan for facilities management, the scan will perhaps prevent others from needing to visit the plant in person and save their noses from the smells!
We have some exciting developments coming up within the virtual reality scanning space, some new equipment, new methods and new creations are just around the corner, so keep an eye out on our social channels and our website to find out more soon!
