The Past and the Present

Making an impact What Drives Us

Spike Productions started out in film production, which needs a clear understanding of an objective and how to make an impact on people. It was started by Warren Mauger and Liam Le Guillou, who both wanted to use their skills to help tell interesting moving stories.

We started small, keeping in mind the way we wanted to work. Our first office was not much bigger than a broom cupboard, but we made it work and steadily built a very talented team.

As a business what we do well is to understand an individual’s or company’s needs and come up with interesting ways of telling their story, making it cut through all the noise of today’s many media channels.

Our knowledge of how businesses work from board level down means we can advise on how to align the design and campaigns with internal processes to ensure the business is maximising its potential.

Our policy at Spike is simple: we do everything within our power and skill to please our clients and give them what they need to win. Every Spike team member shares the qualities of passion, talent, loyalty and integrity.

Meet The Team

Warren Mauger

Warren set up the company back in 2004 and is our Managing Director.

His key skill is as a producer and creating teams that work well together; he has produced documentaries and news reports, and has supplied footage and crews for many of the world’s main broadcasters.

To say he likes a challenge is an understatement. Whether it be in business or as a physical challenge, Warren is someone who pushes his limits.

Daniel d’Avoine

Dan is a talented graphics animator who has been working for and with Spike since 2008, just after he graduated from Plymouth University with an honours degree in Media Arts. Dan worked for us in Jersey and also spent time in the Dubai office for a while. Although no longer full-time with Spike we work together almost all of the time on various projects, it’s barely different from how it used to be.

Outside of work Dan shares an obsession with pushing his body to breaking point, including swimming in the sea all year round. It’s not a necessity for working at Spike – but it helps!

Josh Pemberton

Josh graduated from Bournemouth University with an honours degree in Media Production in 2016. He then spent a few years travelling the world and living in New Zealand before returning to Guernsey in 2020 and teaming up with Spike. Since then he has worked on a variety of projects with Spike, from live streaming and virtual reality tours to video production.

Josh is a big fan of all kinds of sports and so working with Spike on live sporting events is a dream come true. He is also great at digging into the detail of technology and how it works in order to apply it to production situations.

Good with clients and easy to work with, Josh is a positive part of our team.

However, unlike other members of the team Josh does not share a passion for pushing his body to the limits and turns down invitations to run in marathons on an almost weekly basis. We’re sure he’ll give in eventually!

Anthony Ford Marsland

Anthony started his film career whilst at university, co-creating infographic ads for the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce and Brittany Ferries. Since then he has thrown himself into every opportunity he finds, with trademark enthusiasm.

Anthony is a great troubleshooter and experienced in sound, filming and live events.
He joined the team in July 2020, and has been a really good addition to the set-up.
Anthony said: “I have already learnt a lot and advanced my skills as a filmmaker. This is due to the vast and varied experience of the Spike Productions team.”
Outside of Spike, Anthony has his head in the clouds – literally. An avid climber, he can be found up the south coast cliffs or teaching youngsters at Up Climbing.

Daniel Guerin

Dan’s interest in filmmaking developed from a lifelong love of photography. He became a Press Photographer in 2005 and later went freelance. A deep appreciation for the natural world drew him to Madagascar in 2015 working as a Marine Conservation Intern, followed by a journey to Thailand where he trained and worked as an Underwater Filmmaker. 2016 took him back across the Indian Ocean to South Africa for a wildlife filmmaking internship with a renowned training agency.
Naturally adventurous, Dan’s a qualified Divemaster and a keen surfer and kayaker, although years of lugging heavy camera equipment have taken their toll and resulted in him doing these things less often than he would like – lucky then, that he lives and breathes video and photography!

Joe Avary

Joe brings more than two decades of video production and broadcast experience to the Spike Productions team. He started work for us in 2020, initially working on live cricket broadcasts. Being American, he had no idea what the score was or what was going on. His time filming baseball was perfect for following the action and he is pretty good at it.

Joe’s done it all, including being a presenter – with our favourite moment having an interview crashed by Richard Branson. Most recently, he was the senior reporter and weather presenter for Cayman 27 News in the Cayman Islands. Before that he worked for affiliates in Atlanta, GA, Nashville, TN, Asheville, NC, Greensboro, NC, and Omaha, NE. He has been on the campaign trail during the US presidential elections, roamed the sidelines of major sporting events, interviewed international celebrities and heads of state, and provided on-the-ground coverage from natural disasters and other noteworthy news events such as the 2007 Virginia Tech massacre.

His work has been honoured by the Associated Press, the National Press Photographers Association, and with a regional Emmy award. Joe and his wife relocated to Guernsey in 2019. A published poet, he is currently working on his first full-length novel. We think Joe is a calm person in the storm of live filming, he is a great character and fits in perfectly. Everyone needs a Joe in their corner and we are proud to have him working with us.
