A weekend with Howard Marks
Getting the opportunity to follow, the world famous convicted drug smuggler and best selling author around a music festival isn’t something that we get to do everyday, so when Kal and Tim Bonner from Yum Yum Films said they had the opportunity to film a ‘documentary’ with Howard Marks on his recent visit to Jersey and needed a camera operator and sound person, we where happy to help them.
Jersey Live, this year celebrating its 10th year, had asked Howard over to perform to acts, reading fairy tales on the Saturday of the event and a recital from his book on the Sunday. Kal and Tim local film makers heard this and thought that it would be the perfect opportunity to follow the man himself on his trip around Jersey whilst throwing in an interesting twist on the legend of a holy relic.
Following Howard around was one of the more interesting shoots I’ve been on, with his fascinating stories, and extremely interesting friends, watching Howard playing ping pong backstage at Jersey Live against the punk poet John Cooper-Clark, was a definite highlight of the weekend. The footage is now being edited, hopefully we will be able to publish a link to the finished piece soon. However now we can only offer you this coverage of a ‘skilful’ game of table tennis.
